Home
I was thinking about the other day
We went walking as strangers who turned the other way
The man with an empty cup called out for spare change
I tossed him a few coins and quickly turned away
Home
Find a way to feel accepted in
I was thinking about how we turn away
We open up borders and retreat from them again
We linger in the same rooms until the light goes out
The doors are closed shut
Streets are long and cold
You were talking about about how free we are
Our parents never knew the pictures there to see
I saw in your eyes that a match was lit up
When you said the words of the sources of your stay
Who gave you life to live and a place to live it in
It's been a long haul we've had,
so rest in and breathe a while,
the best is still to come
But leave it a the door she said,
don't you bring into here she prayed,
Leave in that hole you made,
The best is still to come
Am i ever coming home?
not as you knew me
Am i ever going home?
not as you had me
It's been a long lonely while,
won't you rest in and raise that smile,
the best is still to come
But leave it a the door she said,
don't you bring into here she prayed,
Leave in that hole you made,
The best is still to come
Am i ever coming home?
not as you knew me
Am i ever going home?
not as you had me
Give it up
give it up to me.....
You in fine colours, you in the right, give it up to me
You're giving me cold shivers, man on the street won't you give me some peace
oh Give it up......
We’re in a bar and it’s late and dark and way too loud
I can’t go home I have to see him with her right in front of me
You look over and you’re anxious ‘cause you know what’s going on
You always do and you can sense that now I need you to be strong
And then I cry and you take it like a man
No awkward silence no shaking going on
You just open your arms and let me in
And for that you are my friend
Again and again
It was the day that she died and you took me out my skin
We went drinking and dancing and God knows what other sin
I don’t know how you do it celebrate a stranger’s life
But somehow you made me smile on this darkest of all nights
And then I’m screaming on the platform going wild
You come running hold me close oh so tight
I don’t know how I got home that night
I guess for that you are my friend
Again and again
Now we’re walking up the hill and you have us all in stitches
I don’t know what beer does to you but I wish I had that, too
Your Irish accent’s getting thicker and is hard to understand
All I know is that I wouldn’t wanna be here with anyone else
And I don’t like goodbyes but the best was yours
You just looked at me and said those three words
Suddenly I hear myself say the same
And for that you are my friend
And for that I’ll be your friend
Again and again
